"It'll be alright," he assured her, "just think of the beautiful kits we're going to have. I'll be the best father I can."

She padded over and curled up in a tight ball beside him.

"No need to speak," he comforted her, "Just take in the beauty of this place. It's amazing! Come, lie here with me."

She nodded, looking back at him. Clearly she wasn't ready to speak just yet, not trusting her voice.

"Well?" he asked proudly, puffing his chest out. "Do you like it?"

She looked around the little clearing, tail slowly swishing through the air.

He purred and led her to the perfect spot where a small waterfall was, and a little grassy clearing surrounded by dense bushed was next to it so they had total privacy.

"You're a very indecisive she-cat, you know," he scolded gently, purring. "How about we go somewhere private and sleep beneath the stars?"

She shrugged helplessly, looking up at him.

Once she lapped the water away and flicked his paw and pulled it away. "Now, what do you want to do?"

She lapped at the water, her ears flattened against her head.

"Good girl," he encouraged her, and smiled warmly. He noticed a small puddle of water to the side and scooped some out with his paw and held it in front of her muzzle. "Drink some water, you'll feel better," he ordered gently.

She turned her head to bury her face in his fur, sniffling quietly as she got herself under control.

As if reading her mind, he sighed and wrapped his legs around her. "I'm never leaving you, Pineleaf. Unless you want me to." He kissed the top of her head softly.

She stated at her paws through a watery blur. She sensed she was on the verge of losing Black too, but she didn't know how to stop it.

Pineleaf flinched back from his harsh words, her eyes filled with tears.

He snarled in frustration at her words. "Fucking damnit, Pineleaf, what do you want me to do? There's a simply answer to all this but your pretty fucking determined to ignore it."

He looked away from her pitiful face and stared straight ahead. "Which one is it, Pineleaf? If you don't talk, I'm just going to leave since it's obvious I'm only causing you distress."

She lifted her head to stare at him, tears coursing their way down her cheeks.
