This Is Wrong But It Feels So Right (Stormwind)

“But hadn’t they just met?” Patchkit asked, puzzled.

“Whitepaw was part of a secret plan; he didn’t want to hurt his own clanmates, so he snuck in to hit Thunderslash directly. But he needed another cat to come with him. And there was only one in the three clans that he trusted enough: Larkpaw.”

Swallowflight watched with a find smile as the kits were utterly captured by the story. Though she was doing her best not to listen; she didn’t like her life being turned into a story.

“Whitepaw And Larkpaw spent a lot of time together in her camp, telling one another colorful stories, some of them the same, and others different after seasons of retellings from one camp to the next. Eventually, the day Came where Whitepaw convinced Larkpaw’s clan to help him take his own clan back.”

Stonekit wrinkled his nose at the thought.

Blackstar nodded to Patchkit.  “Though he left, he always had his clan in his heart, and it never left it.  Lucky for him, the clan he sought refuge with was willing to take him in, but he ya a guard assigned to him.  Her name was Larkpaw, and though it took a sunrise or two, he soon realized that she was the sweetest, most beautiful she-cat he had ever seen.” He cast a teasing glance over at Swallowflight.

“He left his Clan?” Patchkit asked in alarm.

(No worries! I️ have a class now anyways.)

Blackstar continued with his story, noting the looks the kits were giving him, every one totally enraptured by his story. Even Jetkit, who was usually too lazy to care, was listening intently.

“Lucky for Whitepaw’s, he knew where he could to go get Help. So when he’d finally had enough, Whitepaw left his home and crossed the border into another clan’s territory, not sure if he’d ever be able to return to the only place he had ever lived.”

“That’s not fair!” Heronkit protested with a squeak.

The kits’ eyes widened in alarm.

(My iPhone is getting really low on power and I won’t be home for another half hour so I can’t charge it.)

“After that, things only got worse.” Blackstar continued, remembering the genuinely bad times he had faced. “Whitepaw still had to go on hunting patrols like normal, but only Thunderslash and his friends got to eat, even if all they did was lay around camp. He didn’t get any training like he was supposed to. And he wasn’t allowed to speak to any cat in any of the other clans, so some of his friends thought he had abandoned them.”

Stonekit and Patchkit were captured by the story, eyes wide as they listened.

“Whitepaw was just old enough to finally become a full warrior, as he had dreamed of since he was a kit. But one day, before he could have his ceremony, an evil warrior... Thunderslash, came to power. In one violent night he killed the good old leader of Whitepaw’s clan and even Whitepaw’s mentor.”

Heronkit pinned her ears back slightly, drawn fully in to the story as she laid on her father’s spine.

Swallowflight rolled her eyes at the tom.

Blackstar settled in, Heronkit climbing onto his back to listen.

“Once there was a forest by a lake with three clans living in it. In one of these clans lived a handsome young tom named... Whitepaw.” Blackstar could barely keep from snickering as he looked over at Swallowflight.

Stonekit and Patchkit bounced excitedly.

“Hmm...” Blackstar closed his eyes thoughtfully, before opening them again a few heartbeats later. I️ think I️ know a story with all of that in it.”

“All in one!?” Heronkit purred excitedly, unable to control her excitement at the prospect.

“And even better,” added Blackstar with a purr, “It’s a story your mother knows very well as well.” He shot a knowing glance over to Swallowflight.

(I’m Stonekit and Patchkit, you’re Jetkit and Heronkit)

“I wanna hear a story about a big battle!” Stonekit piped up, Patchkit nodding along.

“Tell us about a great leader!” Heronkit mewed excitedly, her whole aspiration in life to be a leader just like her dad.

“Nah!” Patchkit Replied, sticking her tongue out. “I️ wanna hear a story about two lovers!”

Jetkit looked onward, indifferent.

The kits gazed up at him, waiting eagerly.

Blackstar eventually managed to shake most of the clinging kits off of his pelt, but he laid on his belly to allow his kits to get on his back if they so wanted. “I️ think I️ owed somebody a story...?” He teased, gazing affectionately at his kits.

Swallowflight chuckled softly as she watched.

Blackstar rolled around beneath his kits, laughing beneath all the fur.

Patchkit was the one to eventually notice their parents and when she told her littermates they immediately mobbed them.

Blackstar smiled and settled down next to Swallowflight’s nest, not making his presence known so the kits would be even more thrilled once one of them finally looked up from their game. He had promised them a story, after all.

The kits were all play-fighting together.
