He spluttered slightly then picked up Night and carried her out then set her down. "I know you want to help but maybe later, okay?"

Night shook herself off and ran to her father, running into him then trying to help dig, though she was digging the wrong way, sending the dirt back to Hornet.

Hornet's ears twitched when his daughter squealed and he relented somewhat, not kicking the dirt out so forcefully.

Maple sighed and laid on her side, her ears twitching as Night scampered around, squeaking when some dirt her father sent flying landed on her, the kit was able to make sounds, but she had been born unable to speak.

Hornet was busy digging an escape tunnel. He was about three fox-lengths along, attacking the dirt with a single-minded purpose.

A few moons later, Maple laid in the nest in their den with Night running around, after an attack from Maple's old clan, Night was the only kit they didn't take, the she-cat yawned softly and watched the kit.

He slept peacefully, purring quietly in his sleep.

She purred and gently licked his face.

"Love he," he mumbled sleepily before dropping off.

Her tail flicked and she nuzzled him softly.

Her ears drooped and she started grooming him.

Finally he finished and flopped down beside her, panting and exhausted, his paws and pelt scratched up.

She let the other kits nurse while watching the entrance.

He watched her for a moment before padding out of the den.

Her ears twitched and she sniffed the other kits, softy starting to groom them, even if she still just saw those other toms.

He licked her cheek and gently nosed the other five kits to her. "They need you too."

She gave a soft nod and pressed close to him, curling around his kit.

He pushed her back down. "If it bothers you that much I'll make this place more secure, okay?"
