Everlasting Love (Stormwind)

Blossomsnow blinked and looked around. “Um.”

Emberleaf padded away from the stream and buried the water vole.

“Where to next?” Peach Asked with a smile and a slight chuckle. “I don’t think anything will be coming back here for moons.”

Oakfoot finally got close enough to his mark and pounced, killing the thrush before it had time to alert the other prey in the area with a cry of alarm.

Blossomsnow smiled at her, quickly burying the mice.

Emberleaf snuck up on the furry rodent, and after a moment’s pause, pounced.

Peach purred happily as she came back over to Blossomsnow. “Well done!” Purred the bengal. Her time as a warrior was starting to show on her body. Her excess fat from moons of being a kittypet was gone, and her muscles were now visible rippling beneath her pelt in some places. Her unique coat shined in the spots of light that came between the tree branches as she got back to her best friend, and of course she was covered in the small scratches that differentiated a warrior from a coddled house cat.

Oakfoot smirked to himself as he finally caught sight of his prey, creeping up on the thrush carefully.

Blossomsnow managed to nab a pair of mice but she wasn’t an experienced enough hunter to get anything more than that out of the small crowd that rushed her.

Emberleaf soon caught sight of the Water vole right next to the stream and became even more careful in her stalking.

Peach slunk off to the other side of the thicket, thankful that her bengal fur camouflaged her so well. A few moments later, she kept straight up in the air and let out a yowl before charging the thicket. The prey, startled out of their end, scattered, several mice and a squirrel making a panicked dash straight towards the tortoiseshell.

Oakfoot scanned the branches, leaping from branch to branch as he used the scent of the thrush to track his prey.

Blossomsnow nodded and crept a little closer to the thicket before settling to wait patiently.

Emberleaf headed off to the stream, slinking through the undergrowth in a crouch.

Peach nodded. “I’ll go startle it towards you.” She was a bit more clumsy, so she’d be better off being noisy and making a fool of herself while Blossomsnow did the catching.

Oakfoot nodded, padding away and making his way up into the trees.

Blossomsnow shrugged and whispered back, “I don’t really know. Maybe one of us could chase the prey into the paws of the other?”

Emberleaf leaned a little closer to Oakfoot and murmured, “Perhaps I could get the water vole and you the thrush?”

“How do you want to do this?” Whispered Peach, turning her eyes to the more-experienced warrior to see what setup the pair should use for the best results.

Oakfoot scented the air as well, mostly smelling the water vole. It seemed there was a thrush in the trees nearby as well.

Blossomsnow scented the air, catching a good scent of mouse and squirrel.

Emberleaf paused near the stream and opened her mouth to scent the air, catching the scent of a water vole.

Peach lowered into a crouch as they neared the thicket, swiping her tongue around her jaws at the scents she noticed. Even from this far away, the pair could hear the prey rustling around in and a round the brambles.

Oakfoot remained quiet as Emberleaf lead them towards the small stream, not wanting to scare anything away. He was happy to be spending time with the lovely she-cat, but winning would be good, too.

Blossomsnow shrugged and obediently headed over to the thicket.

Emberleaf decided to head deeper into the forest, making her way towards where she knew a relatively nearby Stream was.

Peach stuck close to Blossomsnow’s side, pointing with her tail in the direction of the thicket. She felt they’d have the most success there, since that’s where she was most comfortable hunting.

Oakfoot followed Emberleaf, letting the beautiful calico choose their hunting ground.

Emberleaf and Blossomsnow hurried off with their partners, each immediately searching for prey.

Sterlingflight eventually kicked things off himself. “Let’s go!” He yowled, the start informal thanks to the Tom’s impatience. With that all of the hunters, the ones in teams and working solo, trotted off into the forest. The whole territory was theirs to search.

“Good,” purred the She-cat in reply, sitting next to Blossomsnow to wait for Rainstar to kick off the hunting, something she had to do since Sterlingflight was a participant.

Blossomsnow beamed back at her friend. “Yep!” She said happily.

Oakfoot And Peach eventually padded up to their respective partners. Each one gave their partner s slight smile, both cats harboring some sort of feelings for their hunting teammates that day. Oakfoot was less sure of his and so hadn’t professed them to Emberleaf, not wanting to rush such an important decision.

“You ready?” Peach Asked Blossomsnow, a playful, challenging grin on her face. She fully executed to lose heavily to the more experienced pairs in the competition, and if she were taking it more seriously she might feel a little bad for weighing down the tortoiseshell she was hunting with. But she didn’t let it bother her, choosing to have fun with her best friend instead.

Emberleaf and Blossomsnow both waited anxiously for the hunting contest to start, shifting on their paws.

Oakfoot nodded. “I’m leaving now, I’m hunting with Emberleaf. So I’ll see you then!” The tom then ducked out of the medicine den to follow the rest of the clan, giddy as a young kit. He thought something shiny in the den reflected the light and caught his eye, but he paid it no heed. There were other, more exciting things on his mind, after all.

The cats had all gathered at the training hollow, where those who weren’t hunting would wait for those who were, and then they’d sit around the edges of the clearing to watch the fighting contests. For the hunting, Oakfoot was paired up with Emberleaf for the team hunting, with Peach and Blossomsnow and Sterlingflight And Echowhisper facing off against them. There were solo hunters as well, including Wolfheart.

The Dimclan cats hadn’t been allowed to sneak around the territory by themselves by order of Sterlingflight, but they would be allowed to fight and race since they could still be supervised in those competitions.

Willowheart scowled at being bugged yet again. StarClan, if this was what it had been like for Silverwish, she pitied her mentor so much. “Yes, I will be, but it’s not until after the hunting contest.”

Oakfoot stuck his head in the den next, naturally not giving the poor she-cat a break. “You’re going to go to the clearing for the fighting contest anyways, right?” Sterlingflight had suggested that a few days before, just in case someone got a little too eager as they sparred and injured one of their clanmates.

Willowheart shook her head, not accepting the praise, but didn't say anything, just shooing them out of the den.
