This Is Wrong But It Feels So Right (Stormwind)

Rabbitfire watched the tom leave with a small frown, being reminded of the jet-black coat of one of the kits as he watched the other tom move away.

Blackstar nodded, understanding. “Again, Congratulations,” The tom mewed as he padded off, keeping the conversation short to avoid arousing much suspicion in the tom. Blackstar thought he had done well. He had asked a seemingly normal question, and then gotten all the information he needed from the answer.

Rabbitfire shook his head. “They were only born this morning and Mallowstar was too tired to name them immediately. It’s likely that we will be as soon as she feels better, though.”

Blackstar eyed the crowd for Meadowclan’s medicine cat, but then remembered what Mallowstar had told him the previous day, about Rabbitfire pretending to be the father of her kits. The tom padded up to the deputy, waited until he had the other Tom’s attention, and then mewed “Congratulations on your new family, Rabbitfire.” The tom purred, eyes bright and happy to put on an act. “Have you two named them?”

With all three of them having given their news, the Gathering ended and cats mingled for a few more minutes.

(How!? Lol!)

Blackstar dipped his head, and of course cheered the names of the New warriors along with the rest of the gathered cats. The tom let out a sigh of relief. It seemed that the amicable relations between the three clans were set to continue, at least for another moon.

(Once my family played a game of telephone that started out with “The rain in Spain falls mainly on the plain” and “The camel is very drunk” came out the other end )

Miststar shuffled forwards. “ForestClan is doing well,” he said, in his hoarse voice. “Raintail and Nightwind have recently become warriors, and Firefoot has given birth to a litter of four.”

Blackstar cheered with the cats below for the news of the healthy kits, and was glad to hear that, despite the tragedy in Meadowclan, Mallowstar seemed fine.

The youngest of the three cats in the Great Pine, and possibly one of the youngest leaders in the history of the clans, stepped forward next. He regarded his contingent with a proud glance out at their swelling numbers and their sleek, healthy figures. “Prey is running well in Lakeclan. I am happy to say that we have finally fully recovered from the traitorous acts of Lightningscar six moons ago.” The tom swept his glance over the Gathering below him, and finished with “With ourselves now healed, we look forward to returning to our former glory.” The black-furred tom stepped back to let Miststar speak, wondering what the eldest leader in the clans would say and glancing down at Swallowflight proudly.

Rabbitfire dipped his head to the younger tom and stepped forward. “MeadowClan recently had a fight with a family of foxes that had decided to settle in our territory, but we chased them out,” he announced. “We mourn Driftleaf and hope she finds rest in StarClan. Mallowstar has also given birth to a litter of three healthy kits.” Finishing, he stepped back.

Blackstar stepped back, glancing to Meadowclan’s representative first. He wanted to know about Mallowstar badly, and was also curious as to why so few of her clan had showed up to the Gathering tonight.

The old white tom nodded his head regally and turned towards the clearing and let out a yowl to let their cats know that the Gathering was starting.

“I am ready.” Blackstar replied evenly, setting his multicolored gaze on Miststar. “And you, Miststar?”

Rabbitfire dipped his head to the other tom, balancing neatly on the branch despite the lack of trees on the meadow. “Shall we start the Gathering now?”

“Greetings,” Blackstar mewed to the Meadowclan deputy, settling into his branch on the tree gracefully. He was about to ask the deputy for news about Mallowstar but bit his tongue. Asking so inquisitively might arouse suspicion, and, if there was news, the other cat was likely to bring it up in front of everyone.

(*looks at the beginning of this RP* It’s the Great Pine and there are three Clans: Lake, Forest, and Meadow. Miststar is the leader of ForestClan, the oldest of the three of them)

MeadowClan entered the clearing after the other two Clans, a smaller contingent than normal, and broke off to speak with their friends while the deputy headed towards the Great Pine, leaping up into it as he had the past Gathering and would for at least another two Gatherings.

(We’ll say its a boulder, the only one around, so Starclan must have placed it there for a reason.)

Blackstar easily leapt up onto the boulder the two leaders typically shared. The tom looked around for any trace of Meadowclan. The black-furred leader didn’t expect his counterpart to be there while she was so heavy with his kits, but the deputy and the rest of the able cats would make it there. No clan had missed a gathering in the memory of even the oldest elder.

Swallowflight gave a soft purr and licked his cheek before splitting off from him when they reached the whatever-it-is-the-leaders-are-on.

Blackstar padded into the wide clearing, gratefully rubbing his cheek against his mate’s as they finally arrived at the gathering place. The full moon shone bright above them.

The kits returned to playing and Swallowflight returned to watching them.

Blackstar flicked his tail back at his family as he left the den, off to deal with his leaderly business yet again.

The kits chorused goodbye at him and Swallowflight gave a quick lick to his cheek.

Blackstar smiled happily at the news.  “I can’t wait!”  The Tom’s ears pricked as he heard somebody calling for him from outside the nursery, and the leader gave Swallowflight a few quick licks on the cheek.  “I have to go,” He mewed sadly, standing up and giving all of his kits a quick nuzzle as well.

“That is true...,” she said thoughtfully. “All right, I’ll go.”
