Cretatous Survival (Ash)

Scowler frowned softly, he had been hoping them would have at least two hatchlings, but he smiled over at trics and the baby, giving a heavy call.

She playfully knocked horns with her mate and she helped the tiny hatchling walk around the nest, she looked to the other eggs and sniffed them, giving soft chirps to the eggs but hearing nothing in return.

Scowler smiled widely, laying down and watching the hatching in amusment at how small it was, she smiled at trics, nudging her as he watched her interact with the hatchling.

She lowered her head and gave soft chirps to the egg, smiling when she heard chirps back, she helped the hatchling out of the shell, licking and nuzzling the tiny hatchling, who was smaller than most hatchlings, clearly it had Trics' genes and not Scowlers.

Scowler gapped and jolted his tail swaying heavily as he nuzzled trics excitedly.

Trics sighed and she resumed grazing near the nest, watching the other hatchlings off and on, she jolted as she heard a loud crack and she turned her head, seeing one of their eggs cracking.

Scowler nuzzled her "they will" he promised, he was unfortunately just as worried as trics but knowing his stress would them influence her he decided to keep a calm resolve, moving a little closer to the nest nudging an egg softly with his snout.

Trics looked to Scowler and she whimpered softly, "What if they don't hatch" She asked in a scared tone.

Scowler trotted over to trics grunted heavily when he saw her move away from the nest, he moved over to her and nuzzled her. Trotting with her back to the nest and watching the eggs intently, his tail swaying softly.

Trics sighed as she watched hatchlings run around or nuzzle up go their mothers, it upset her that her eggs were taking so long, at one point she even started to slowly move away from the nest, until she realized there was still a small chance and she trotted back to the nest, nuzzling the eggs gently.

Scowler trotted through the fields, checking on the herd but also keeping a careful eye on the nest and trics. He began to move back, his tail swaying lightly.

Trics grazed close to the nest while glancing off and on toward her remaining eggs, there was only four left from the large clutch, either egg stealers got the others, or they had been crushed in some way shape or form, Trics had started losing hope when all the other eggs of the herd hatched but hers, making her think that her remaining eggs were just decoys.

She laid down and sighed, watching the nest while laying her head on the ground.

Scowler grunted, looking over to trics, he shook his frill and laid his head down lightly, casting his vision over the herd and the forestry.

"I just don't feel like it Scowler" She looked to him and sighed softly.

Scowler, finally moved back a little freeing her horns, he didn't like that she was so stressed nor did she like that she hadn't submitted to his suggestion of a game. But willing to set her have her way for the moment he laid down beside the nest.

She let out a squeak as she was pulled and she tried to pull apart, she didn't like being that far from the nest, she struggled against him and tried to push him to maybe get him to stop.

Scowler chuckled, locking their horns and pulling trics a few feet away from the nest, the eggs and forest still in total view of him.

"Scowler..." Trics murmured and tried to back off again, but she nearly stepped back into the nest when she did, making her push forward against him so they wouldn't lose any more eggs.

Scowler ignored her in favour of knocking her horns again, moving forward with a chuckle.

"Scowler... We need to watch the nest, not play" She murmured while backing off slightly.

Scowler chuckled, spinning he trotted toward her and playfully challenged her, knocking his horns lightly against hers in amusment. With all the stress of the egg stealers and trics giving birth he needed a chance to unwind and play with his mate.

She jolted when he nudged her and she turned to watch him, raising a light brow.

Scowler stood and moved over to trics, nudging her horns before trotting off cockily swishing his tail around tauntingly.
