Cretatous Survival (Ash)

Oceana frowned as she stood with the hatchlings, she couldn't help getting a little annoyed with Trics, walking to the other female and butting against her softly, "Hey... You know maybe he found a fast way there... He could already be there" She said tot he other female, looking to Scowler for any form of help.

Trics seemed to perk up a little at the thought of Patchy already beating them there, "But... He would have came to us anyway..." Trics murmured, hanging her head again.

Scowler frowned at his mate, stepping closer to her, "Trics...we need to move, we can't risk the entire herd over a chance...Patchy wouldn't have wanted that, he'd have wanted his family and mate safe..."

Trics gave a small whine as she kept turned away, "No... He might catch up.. We have to wait.." She whined, her mind seemingly creating the illusion that their eldest offspring was ive.

Scowler looked over at Trics, standing he nuzzled her, “we need to move baby”

Trics was awake by then, but refused to move, a saddened depressed look upon her face.

Scowler woke up an hour or so later with a loud yawn.

Oceana stayed close to her mates, keeping watch and keeping the hatchlings close.

Scowler frowned but nodded, nuzzling her the male moved over to Trics and laid down, eager to rest before waking the herd to move.

"Scowler, I promise I'll be fine... After everything I... I dont feel safe laying down..." She admitted quietly.

Scowler gave her a stern look before nuzzling her, "rest" he ordered, nudging her ahead of him with his frill.

"I'll be fine" She said softly and nuzzled him.

Scowler nodded, before casting his eyes across the herd, "we'll need to move again soon, go get some rest."

Oceana continued to nuzzle the male, "Things happen for a reason Scowler... Its sad yes... But its true" She sighed.

Scowler nuzzled Oceana in turn, “he shouldn’t have been there, I should have found him before..” he looked away again.

Oceana moved forward and nuzzled her mate, pressing close to him, "You did the right thing as his father Scowler" She said softly.

Scowler frowned and shook his head, “no he asked me to do it” he looked away ashamed, “I moved his body but that thing could still come back” he huffed visibly upset.

Oceana followed close to the male, keeping at an angle so they could keep an eye on Trics, she frowned as she listened to her mate, letting out a shaky breath, "It tried to throw him..." She murmured to herself mostly, shivering at the memory of her first mate being thrown by the same creature, "Please tell me you didn't leave him there to have those things pick him apart while he was alive" She pleaded with the male.

Scowler looked over at Oceana, nodding softly but then considering Trics could wake up, "not here" he told her, he looked around the herd, who seemed settled, all resting for the most part. The male stood waiting for Oceana before moving out of ear distance of Trics, "The creature attacked him, crushed his sides, he couldn't walk..."

Trics had eventually cried herself to sleep, still letting out the odd whimper.

"Scowler... Do you need to talk?" Oceana asked quietly once she was sure Trics was asleep.

Scowler laid his head on Tric's gently, huffing to her lightly, the male still looking back in the direction by which they'd come.

Oceana gave a nod, content for now with how far he had gone, but expecting him to stay there, giving both trikes comforting nuzzles and licks.

Trics continued to let out whimpers and cries as she pressed close to Scowler, returning his nuzzles.

Scowler shot a look at Oceana, annoyed that she was trying to get him to mourn with Trics, but knowing she meant well, the male laid down hesitantly with his mate and nuzzled her further.

Oceana reached over and gave Scowler a soft nuzzle and licked his cheek softly, giving a soft nod, hoping to encourage him more.

Trics whimpered loudly, pressing into Scowler as she felt his nuzzle, the female's body trembling heavily.

Scowler considered Oceana for a long while before taking a hesitant step forward and nuzzling Tric's gently, unable to help looking back often.

Upon hearing Trics, Oceana came trotting over, as she saw Patchy's mate, but no Patchy, she assumed what happened, she laid with the other female and tried to comfort her, Oceana looked to their mate, giving a saddened look, knowing he was keeping his emotions as caged as he could, she gestured with her head for him to comfort Trics, hoping that a little encouragement may help them both in the long run.
