A Romantic Entanglement (Stormwind)

As it didn’t appear that the leaders would be talking to them anytime soon, the journeying cats started to talk among themselves. “WindClan’s has to move our camp to the old rabbit warrens,” Crowpaw said grimly. “The monsters were getting too close.”

Feathertail stayed pressed against Crowpaw as she waited patently to be addressed by the assembly of leaders, happy that the apprentice was there.

Crowpaw stayed steady as Feathertail leaned against him, looking around at the other four cats.

Feathertail couldn’t help shaking her head at the sight of the Great Rock bring completely overturned as the leaders clambered on top of it. It looked so wrong to the silvery she-cat. Looking for some sort of stability, she unconsciously leaned against Crowpaw as he sat at her side.

There were only a few short words between the leaders before they climbed up the upside-down Great Rock, the medicine cats and Hawkfrost waiting at the foot of it.

Feathertail eagerly linked up with her patrolmates, sitting with Brambleclaw on one side and Crowpaw on the other, and then tried to listen in on what the leaders were saying to one another. She kept her attention fixed on the meeting, needing to be ready in case a question was asked of her.

The RiverClan cats were the first to arrive, even having brought the most cats (Leopardstar, Stormfur, Feathertail, Mudfur, Hawkfrost, and Mothwing), but soon the rest of the Clans showed up, the cats that went on the journey gathering together.

Feathertail walked alongside Leopardstar, the medicine cat trailing behind out of sight and out of mind from the fluffy-tailed she-cat.

Crowpaw briefly closed his eyes, staying like that for a few more seconds before backing off. The young tom looked at Brambleclaw, who nodded, before he left, giving the other five one small smile. The six of them would meet at Fourtrees the next night with their leaders and medicine cats.

Feathertail closed her eyes, eagerly returning the touch of noses with the Windclan apprentice. The pretty She-cat was unable to suppress a shuddering sigh as Crowpaw touched her for what might be the last time in a long time.

Brambleclaw quickly stepped in before a fight could erupt, which seemed likely from all the tension in the clearing. "We were just about to leave," he said calmly to Webfoot, glancing at his companions.

Webfoot grunted, seemingly unimpressed but letting his hackles smooth. "Then hurry up," he snapped, turning to Crowpaw. "Come on. I'll take you to Tallstar." He started to leave, apparently in the opposite direction of the original WindClan camp, which brought up a conversation that revealed that WindClan had had to move camps.

"May I say goodbye to my friends?" Crowpaw asked quickly, a question which made Webfoot even more unimpressed and somewhat startled the other journeying cats, but he gave his grudging permission on the condition that the dark-furred apprentice be quick about. Crowpaw approached his friends and touched Tawnypelt's pelt with his nose, brushed affectionately past Stormfur and Brambleclaw, and touched his muzzle to Squirrelpaw's before approaching Feathertail. Gazing up at her, he reached up to gently touch his nose to hers, uncaring of the disapproving stares of his Clanmates.

Feathertail pinned her ears back at the outright hostility from the Windclan tom. She could understand that Webfoot would be angry that they looked so much better than he did- but they had the solution to the problem! They could save the clans!

“Do you at least remember me?” Crowpaw asked the older tom almost desperately, almost flinching at Webfoot’s flat, unenthusiastic yes. Not that it didn’t have cause. Crowpaw had just vanished without warning and then he came back looking so much healthier than the WindClan cats.

Webfoot’s eyes narrowed when he finally took notice of the five cats that weren’t WindClan. “What are you doing here?” He growled, fur bristling, clearly hostile. “Get off our territory!”

Feathertail nearly flinched when she saw how bad Webfoot and the other warriors looked, but thankfully was able to avoid insulting the Windclan warriors by doing so. “It’s us, the patrol sent to find the clans a new home!” Feathertail Replied quickly, stepping forward eagerly, as if they could start on their journey immediately in order to find the other warriors some food.

There was a short talk, in which Owlpaw was suspiciously and Crowpaw disbelieving, as the tabby tom hadn’t even left the nursery yet when Crowpaw left to go on the journey. Eventually, though, Owlpaw was convinced of Crowpaw’s identity and just as Crowpaw was declaring that he needed to speak with Tallstar, a new voice cut in. “Who must speak with Tallstar? A very skinny Webfoot growled, followed by two other equally skinny WindClan warriors. Their bones could easily be seen through their thin, ragged pelts. It was obvious they’d been starving, and almost painful to realize how much more healthy the journeying cats were.

Feathertail tilted her head, unable but to help smiling at the kit. To avoid confusing or frightening the lonely kit, she stayed silent, letting Crowpaw do the talking.

A young tabby apprentice burst out of the brush in front of them, looking like he was barely old enough to leave the nursery. His eyes widened then narrowed at the sight of the three cats, not recognizing any of them, not even Crowpaw. “I knew I smelled intruders!” He growled, trying to sound threatening, almost flinching when Brambleclaw, Stormfur, and Squirrelpaw burst out of the brush as well.

Eyes round with surprise, Crowpaw looked over the tiny tom. “Owlkit?”

Feathertail stopped right beside Crowpaw, parting her jaws to catch the same recent Windclan scent as the apprentice had.

The six cats continued to run for a few minutes, Crowpaw and Tawnypelt eventually pulling ahead of the rest of them. This continued for another short while before Crowpaw skidded to a halt, scenting a fresh WindClan scent.

Feathertail was next to bound after the pair of apprentices, The she-cat’s fluffy tail streaming out behind her as she raced to get home.

The group of six briefly paused at the border, all of them gazing out at the moors, but it was Crowpaw who stared most intently at the land of his birth. The almost reverent silence was soon shattered when Squirrelpaw bounded over the border, mewling, "Come on!" There was a brief pause for just a moment before Crowpaw took off after the youngest of the group.

Feathertail’s hardened gaze lightened slightly. Even she recognized the terrain that marked Windclan’s territory, which meant that her own camp wasn’t that far away.

...If it still exists. What if they were too late? The thought terrified The she-cat.

Half a moon after the six cats had left the mountains, and the day after they had come across Highstones, in the early afternoon they finally reached the edge of WindClan’s territory. Crowpaw perked up when he spotted the familiar moors.

(Poor Leafpaw will be the smallest of them all, like how I’m the shortest in my Spanish class XD (and one of the shortest in my other classes, but there is shorter there so yay!) Me and my fourteen year old sister are the short ones in our family (personally, I blame our dad) while the rest of my siblings are all at least slightly above average height.

*ponders Crowpaw and Feathertail* Unfortunately, they don’t really have the privacy needed to mate. They really can’t wander off to do so and leave the others unguarded. I guess it’ll just have to wait. Now that the obligatory feelings talk is out of the way, maybe we skip to them getting back to the Clans?

Random fact: Cats grow the fastest for the first nine to twelve months of their life, but then continue to grow at a much slower rate until they’re about eighteen months old. This varies between breeds, sometimes.)
