Lady smiled weakly back, looking back to the path in front of them.

(Now what?)

Newton offered Lady a friendly smile, the gray tabby realizing he’d be in charge of keeping their spirits up as well as keeping them on the right course.

Lady hurried a little to catch up when she realized she was falling behind.

Newton turned around, casting a concerned glance at Lady as he noticed the she-cat dragging.

Lady padded after Newton, her tail hanging low as she walked.

Newton used the sun to get his bearings before heading out, unaccustomed to leading the way while Lady followed.

Lady padded after him after giving herself a quick grooming.

“We’ve got this,” Newton purred softly, stretching his legs out and padding to the entrance of the warren to wait for Lady.

Lady slowly nodded after a moment’s hesitation, getting to her paws.

“We’re not doing any good waiting around here. Are you ready to keep going?” Asked Newton softly, giving her another lick behind the ear.

Lady blinked a trifle sadly at Newton. She still thought that the StarClan cats were mistaken, but she wasn’t going to mention that.

Newton gave Lady an affectionate lick behind the ear as his best friend steeled herself to face whatever destiny Starclan had for her head on.

It was several minutes later before Lady managed to pull herself back together, forcefully shoving down her fear.

Newton wasn’t going anywhere as Lady cried into his fur, staying silent and almost perfectly still.

Lady hiccuped quietly, trying not to cry.

Newton happily let his friend lean into him, not saying anything and just being a nice, fluffy rock for her to steady herself with.

Lady sniffled quietly, hiding her face in his fur. “I’m scared,” she whispered, her voice muffled by his fur.

Knowing that he might have come across a little harsh, Newton walked up to Lady and pressed against her side. “You care more about the clans than anyone I know has ever cared about anything else.” The tom added, looking into his friend’s eyes. “We can’t turn back just because you’re afraid of your destiny.” His blue eyes softening, the gray tabby added “Whatever danger there is, I’m there to face it with you, Lady. You’re not in this alone.”

Lady pinned her ears back, startled and a little hurt by his stern tone.

“What I’m saying, Lady, is that it’s stupid to give up now.” Newton Replied, a little more firmly than the she-cat would be used to hearing him.

Lady trembled slightly. “Telling stories doesn’t mean I have a great destiny!” She cried, hiccuping slightly as she tried to hold back the tears. “What does being interested in Clan life have to do with anything?”
