We’re On An Adventure (Stormwind)

Lady felt a flicker of relief at the sight of his fur, but it was quickly overshadowed with worry, the she-cat knowing that he could easily be dead or injured, and that it wouldn’t be long before it was too dark for her to continue searching.

After some time with nothing, a sopping wet clump of gray tabby fur could be seen clinging to a tree branch stuck in the gully. He had gone this way!

Lady pinned her ears back, padding along the side of the gully and anxiously searching for any signs of her best friend.

Debris was strewn all throughout the bottom of the mud-soaked gully, all sorts of things from twoleg stuff to tree branches scattered randomly.  Newton could have been caught on any one of them, or just swept away somewhere unknown...

Lady slowly crept out of her hiding spot, looking utterly bedraggled. She quickly set off for where she had lost Newton.

Some time passed before the rain finally ceased, and more before the torrent of water slowed down into a trickle through the muddy bottom of the riverbank. The sun was nearly setting by now.

With one last, anguished glance at the flooded gully, Lady fled the scene, searching for shelter and eventually finding it in a thicket of bushes.

The rain increased in intensity, to the point where Lady was going to get soaked to the bone if she didn’t find some cover.

Lady eventually stopped, admitting defeat. She stared hopelessly at the rushing brown water, ears flat against her head and fur soaked through, breathing heavily from her frantic running.

The torrent of disgusting brown water continued on ceaselessly, carrying Newton along with it faster than lady could hope to move. Hopefully he would get caught on something, or she might never see him again.

Lady ran down the side of the gully, frantically searching the water for any sign of her best friend. “Newton!” She cried again.

Newton was caught somewhere in the torrent, thrashing and panicking as he found himself dunked under the water and dashed against the debris in the floodwater every few heartbeats.

Lady shrieked in surprise as she was sent flying through the air, hitting the ground hard enough to knock the air out of her. She lay there for a few stunned moments, trying to recover, before remembering Newton and sprinting back to the flooded gully. “Newton!” She cried, staring with wide, horrified eyes at the rushing water, Newton nowhere in sight, the tom having been swept down along with the water.

Grimly, Newton ran up to a part of the bank where the slope, while still impossibly steep, was a bit lower than it was elsewhere. Closing his eyes, the tom moved his neck to the right and then center again, letting go of Lady’s scruff and sending her sailing up to safety just before the water washed over him.

Lady yelped in surprise when her paws left the ground, flailing slightly before realizing that Newton had picked her up. “Newton!” She protested yet instinctively curled up to allow him to carry her more easily.

Without warning, Newton grabbed Lady’s scruff in his jaws, pulling the smaller she-cat up and then trying to carry her away from the floodwater. The endeavor was hopeless, however, and with a grim look of determination Newton hauled her closer to the bank, seeming to have an idea.

Lady slipped and slid on the mud, eyes wide with terror and ears pinned back flat against her head. “I told you we shouldn’t have come down here!” She shouted at Newton in mingled fear and anger.

Unfortunately for the pair, the walls of the dry stream bed were too high for the young cats to scale on either side for some distance, the wall of water starting to catch up to them. The ground beneath their paws became muddy with the rain pounding down onto it, further slowing their flight.

Lady's eyes widened in alarm, and with a yelp, she bolted after Newton like a startled hare, just barely keeping ahead of the water.

A wave of brown water crashed around the corner they had walked past moments ago, chasing the pair of cats. Newton took off running after seeing the danger, needing to find a place he and Lady could escape the stream bed.

Lady halted when he did, glancing around warily. "Newton..."

“It won’t.” Newton Replied simply, though he stopped in his tracks when he thought he heard a low rumbling behind them.

“What if this gully floods?” Lady repeated, sounding fearful.

Newton turned his head towards Lady, mewling a “Hmm?”

Lady grumbled, not really agreeing with him, but then, she’d always hated Water with a fiery passion. Suddenly, a horrifying thought came upon her. “What if this floods?”
