Catching A New Friend [Storm]

"We can try to remove it, if you're willing to risk it, but if we did, we'd have to have her deliver her cubs as soon as possible, so they aren't harmed in the surgery, and if she does end up dying, we still have possible female cubs to put back into the wild" he stated, leaving the scared cougress alone, "If you can keep your place fairly cold, we can make up a solution to start her labor in a place that shes comfortable in and as soon as she's ready, we can either do the surgery here, or at your place, whatever you're fine with" He stated.

Darrel sighed softly. "She's been livin' with me for months, got caught in one of my traps in the National Forest land a few hours away." Pinning his ears back as he glanced at Scarlet, he wondered aloud "What could you all do to help her?"

"I don't think having cubs would cause it since it's a normal thing, and she seems to know what she's doing... Possibly a change in diet or activity, extra stress on her might do it, or even it was just something she was born with, like a brain tumor and it suddenly caused something to change" He stated, "There's this new thing going around with the female cougars we've noticed, the ones in the wild are beginning to be forcibly inbred by siblings or other male relatives, when the females down in your area were tagged, almost all of them were related somehow to one another, and to the males in the area, one in particular was very heavily inbred, we kept an eye on her since her birth, her mother came up this way to deliver the cubs and when we found them, only one female had survived from the litter and had been abandoned, lets see here" He murmured, getting close enough to check the cougress's tag, "Damn, she had disappeared a while ago after we tagged her and we tried to keep her up here" He ran a hand through his hair, "This is the female I was just talking about, I can tell you for a fact that its a brain tumor with her, we scanned her before releasing her, the tumor was very small then, so we thought nothing of it" He stated.

"Um... could that have to do with it?" Darrel showed the professor what she was up to, wondering if something so simple could really be the cause of her problems.

"Well... We'd have to look into it... But she might have something in her brain that is causing this, possibly a tumor, we can do what we can, but if it can't be fixed, she'll probably have to be put down, unless a place is built for her that is constantly air conditioned so she won't overheat, that seems to be the main problem that I can see at least" While the pair spoke, Scarlet laid with her head pressed against the bars of the cage, her ears back and her eyes looking tired, she was still panting heavily and when a sudden realization seemed to hit her, she began grooming her stomach, not due to labor, but she had remembered she would have cubs soon and whatever sickness seemed to be controlling her seemed to be put aside as she groomed her stomach, her fur soaked with the milk leaking from her teats.

"...what's going on?" Darrel finished his question, as the professor stood there and thought deeply.

Scarlet pinned her ears and she paced in her cage, letting out distressed sounds and hissing loudly in fear, she didn't like all the noise of the new place and being in the cage didn't help, when the wind stopped blowing against her, her symptoms started again where she was panting heavily and pressing her head against the bars of the cage, her ears pinned and she was looking weak again, her back legs suddenly gave out and she whined as she laid the rest of the way down after her back end flopped down.

Finally, he arrived, shaking the hand of a former classmate of his, who was now the university's foremost expert on veterinary medicine.

The cougress whined and she squirmed in the cage, pinning her ears and lightly licking at his hand, unsure of why she was in the cage or where they were going.

Darrel poked his hand through the open window behind him to pet her reassuringly, but still kept driving.

Scarlet pressed her head into a corner then jolting as she felt the injection, she tried to spin around for a split second before she stumbled and fell onto her side, she breathed heavily and managed to crawl to him before the drugs took full affect on her, she looked a bit better with the wind blowing against her while she was in the cage, the breeze cooling her down some, half way to the university the drugs wore off and she seemed quite a lot better, she squirmed in the cage and she let out calls to him, her tail lashing and she pressed her head against the cage to try and get out.

"Shit..." whatever was wrong, it was well above his pay grade. Growling, he waited for Scarlet to corner herself before quickly injecting her with tranquilizer and caging her, lopping her into his truck and tearing off for the university's veterinary center, a few hours away.

The female's symptoms were strange, it was like she was building up to a heat stroke for no reason, like her body was overheating, until she stood and staggered around the room, bumping her head into the wall a few times, her tagged ear twitched and she turned again, jolting as she bumped into a desk, now showing neurological problems as she started head pressing against the wall, clear evidence of a problem in her brain, which could be causing her to suddenly start overheating.

"How can I help!?" The male snarled in frustration, snapping a little at the helpless feral but recovering himself after a moment. He ran up the hill but returned quickly with a large medical index, flipping trough it to try and see what the problem could be.

The cougar panted heavily and she lapped at the water, even chewed on the ice, trying to roll on the ground to get some airflow and cool herself down, she looked up at him with a pleading look, trying to beg him to help cool her off, her sides heaved and when she breathed out as deeply as she did the cubs in her stomach could be seen moving.

"Here here, lay down." Darrel gripped the female by her forelegs and set her back on the ground, but quickly filled her bowl with cold tap water and a few handfuls of ice, still perplexed by her problem.

She panted heavily and whined softly, looking up toward him and she flicked her tail, starting to overheat for whatever reason, she slowly stood and she walked toward the sink in the room, rising up and she nudged the sink on, lapping heavily at the water that came out, her back legs looking weak as she tried to hold herself up.

Darrel wondered what in the world could be hpvwith her.

The female pinned her ears and when she started getting too hot on the table, Scarlet tried to jump off the table, stumbling and flopping to the floor, her mouth agape as she laid there and she whined, her tail lashing lightly as she laid out on the cold floor.

Darrel hadn't seen anything like this before, not in recent memory at least, and the first thing he tried was a pain pill and some fever reducer.

She let out a whine and pinned her ears as she was carried, she huffed and laid out on the exam table while she was breathing heavily, she took up as much space as she could on the cold table, her sides heaving as she tried to cool off, something just suddenly becoming wrong with her, like her body couldn't control her temperature anymore.

Darrel's look turned to one of concern, and without much delay he picked up the cougar carefully and carried her to his veterinary office, placing her on the table and watching her carefully as he prepared a thermometer and a few other instruments.

She pulled away as soon as she felt him out of her, she pinned her ears lightly and sat down, not even bothering to groom herself like usual, she just seemed really hot, her panting was heavy and if she could sweat, she would probably be sweating buckets, figuratively at least.

Sighing, Darrel used his hand to massage the knot until she could yank free, watching her quizzically as she squirmed off of him.

She huffed out as she stayed over him, panting as she was beginning to grow fairly hot, her ears back and she tried to stand off him, hissing out as she felt his knot pulling on her ass when she tried to get off him.
