Devils' Flight

"Knox you can barely walk, and you won't be able to carry Aspen" She whimpered, flinching slightly at his growl, though she did as she was told, shifting to her wolf, staying close, her ears back.

Knox growled gently, “shift into your wolf now baby...we’ll get away from here, away from that demon.” Although Knox suspected that if it was really Veta he wanted, he’d follow them anywhere.

"Best I have is a wolf right now..." she said with a sigh, "I can try to find one of the horse herds in the area.." She said, "I can stay as a wolf while looking for them... You stay with him.." She murmured, Veta looked hesitant to hand their son over, she was scared to let him go.

Knox nodded, “I won’t be able to carry you”he admitted, in his state it was remarkable he’d have the strength to even carry himself. “Do you have something strong to turn into?” He asked gently.

Veta was quiet for a few minutes before she let out a small breath, "The lake... Back home..." she said quietly, "That bit tree with the notch in the trunk" She murmured, looking up toward him.

Knox nodded gently, “where would you like to bury him?” He was asking her, because he didn’t want to assume this changed her ideals on coming back to him.

Veta whimpered as she held their son close, petting his head softly, she rocked slightly, it took Veta some time to finally come to terms, "W-we need to at least bury him..." she mumbled to Knox, whimpering loudly.

Knox didn’t believe using force right now would help so he simply nodded, and crouched down, rubbing her sides affectionately he avoided looking at their sons body.

"N-no" She whined as she held onto their baby, continuing to tremble, refusing to let her baby go.

Knox attempted to hold Veta, “baby...he’s gone...we have to go...” clearly the male was dealing with his grief differently.

Veta trembled as she held onto her mate, whining loudly, "He can't have me... I'm yours... Not his.." She whined, whimpering and she slowly pulled away, crawling to Aspen and she cried as she pulled the limp boy close, she held him as close as she could, crying harder as she held Aspen, though she clearly was having... Problems... She began mumbling that it was only a dream, claiming that this body she held was just fake, the angel seemed to of finally snapped, a wild look on her eye as she held her baby close.

Knox noticed the demon and snarled, pulling Veta close, he wanted to go after the demon, but as Veta had said, she was in no shape to fight let alone kill another demon. Knox grew angry, “he did it because he wants you” he snarled.

Veta sobbed and screamed out in agony at the loss of their son, clinging onto Knox, shaking heavily and she sobbed into his chest, her entire body shaking, she didn't even notice another demon fly overhead, the male had a sly look upon his face and blood on his claws before he vanished beyond the trees.

Knox groaned as she followed beside Veta, when he saw their son, he caught his scent, grabbing onto Veta for support as he quickly realised what had happened. He roared, kneeling to the ground with her. Pulling her close.

Veta sighed, knowing it was no use, she sent the rest of the caravan off before she walked with Knox, trying to help him as much as she could, after some time of following their son's scent, the young demon could be seen slouched in the middle of a clearing, he was clearly injured by the red stains all along the grass and the scent in the air, "Aspen, come here" Veta whined, trying to get the boy to come to her, but he wouldn't move, at lease until a small gust of wind seemed to push him right over, Veta stared in shock and cried out as she caught sight of the boy's other side, he had been mauled in the clearing, Veta collapsed to the ground, hitting the ground with her fists as she sobbed.

Knox snarled, “not a chance, if I’m dying for anyone, it’s going to be you two” he stepped forward wincing, “let’s go.”

"Knox!" She scolded, curling his arm over her shoulders to try to help keep him up, "Knox, he comes and goes, but you aren't in any condition to try to get Aspen back" She said, nuzzling him softly, "Keep everyone here safe, I'll go" She pleaded, cupping his cheek gently.

Knox snarled, at the thought of another demon touching her, he ignored her protests and stood, clutching his stomach and stumbling.

"Knox stay down, you'll make yourself worse" She said, looking to him before she began looking about for their son, she trembled as she couldn't find him, her hands tangled in her hair, "He isn't here" She whined, pacing near the demon, "The only thing I can think of... A while back a demon tried to take a lot of us girls... He might be trying to draw us out..." she murmured, "We could go if you weren't so injured..." she whined, looking to the male.

Knox tilted his head, holding her against him tightly. Knox’s eyes widened, the demon groaning as he forced himself to sit up, “where is he?”

"I don't know Knox... I really dont..." she whimpered, clinging onto his arm as if he would vanish if she let go, she stayed quiet for some time before hearing a yelp from Aspen, she jumped up and looked about, her eyes widening as she couldn't see him, "Aspen!" She called loudly, her breathing quickening as she began to panic.

Knox tilted his head back, groaning, “I can’t close you Veta...tell me how to fix it...”

"I know Knox..." she murmured, sighing loudly, pressing her cheek against his hand softly, closing her eyes, "I just... The fear is still there... I can still see your claws... Sometimes it's almost like I can feel it again... I don't sleep... If I do it's restless..." she admitted, hanging her head lightly, tears pricking at her eyes.

Knox sighed, “my brother has been coming around...after you left I...” he broke off, squeezing his eyes shut. He reached up, tangling his fingers in her hair enjoying her scent.

Veta couldn't hold herself back as she leaned into his touch, letting out a sigh, "Will you just tell me?" She asked softly, looking to him, sadness in her eyes, "I know... I'm sorry too..." she said quietly.
