Violetwing sighed again but didn't bring it up again, pressing against him. "Who are you going to make deputy?"

"Why is that something you worry about? We both knew this was coming as soon as I was promoted..." Treewhisker rubbed his cheek against hers, trying to reassure Violetwing that they would be ok. He basically did all of the duties already anyways. What difference could it possibly make for him to take the name?

Violetwing sighed. "I'm more worried about the fact that you're going to be leader now."

"She no longer has to suffer being a broken mind trapped inside an ailing body." The male reminded Violetwing to try and console the female, though he naturally felt quite morose as well.

Violetwing grimaced and pressed her muzzle into his neck fur.

It was a surprisingly short amount of time before Treewhisker returned to Violetwing. "Sapstar has... lost her last life." The tom sighed, more so mourning the death than dreading his newfound responsibilities, at least for now.

The she-cat's eyes widened in surprise and worry.

"Treewhisker!" Came a call from the clearing. Freezing up as his name was called, the male slowly stood and glanced in the direction of the voice. "Treewhisker, it's Sapstar." Came the warrior's harried voice, confirming the Tom's worst fears. He abandoned his family and raced to the leader's den.

Violetwing pressed against him, twining her tail with his.

Treewhisker purred loudly, his ears perking up as he felt a rush of warm love flow through him, idly watching his kits chase the butterfly around and rubbing his cheek against his mate's.

"Butterfly!" Hazelkit squealed happily and hurried after her brother.

Violetwing chuckled in amusement.

Graykit smiled warmly at his sister, but his attention was quickly diverted to a pretty blue butterfly floating past the pair of them. "Let's hunt it, sis!" Suggested the tom with an eager squeal and beginning to toddle after it.

Chuckling, Treewhisker looked from the kits back to Violetwing.

Hazelkit pouted when she was no longer able to reach his ears, hopping off of him. "One day I will! And you can't stop me! Mwahahaha!" She gave an adorable obviously fake evil laugh.

"Never, Hazelstar!" Graykit chirped, trying to hold his sister back by putting one of his forepaws on her head and holding her back from his ears.

Hazelkit pounced on her nearly-identical brother and started to chew on his ears, pausing only to announce dramatically, "I, the great Hazelstar, will defeat you, Graystar!"

Treewhisker sat alongside her, his eyes aglow with love for his family as he watched his kits wrestle. He chuckled softly as Graykit took a deep breath and seemingly tried to let out a threatening roar, but sounded more like one of those things twolegs gave their dogs.... what was that called again? By now the deputy had forgotten most of the vocabulary of the kittypet he once was, but his roots as one still remained, and some elders doubted the young Tom's abilities to keep up with his increasing responsibilities as Sapstar grew more and more ill, especially now that he had a mate and kits as well.

(*le skipping of le four moons* Treewhisker is deputy, Sapstar is dying, and Violetwing is the mother of two two-moons-old kits.

Violetwing watched over her kits as they played, ears twitching.

Hazelkit played with her brother, mock-wrestling.

Treewhisker yowled out of a mix of surprise and playfulness, fighting back in a flurry of paws and nearly succeeding in rolling back atop Violetwing. However, his struggling eventually subsided and he simply looked dreamily up at his mate, purring softly as he lightly thumped her chest with his forepaw. "Youvwin," he conceded, smiling softly.

She squawked and placed a paw on his face, rolling them over.

Growling, the now-healthy Tom turned suddenly and leapt up on his hindpaws dramatically, tackling Violetwing to the ground with a triumphant purr, glancing at her challengingly as he waited for her to make a move.

She bopped at his tail in retaliation, hurrying to walk by his side.

Treewhisker returned the smirk, gently shoving her playfully with one of his forepaws and ten carrying on walking as if nothing happened.

"I should hope not," she said dryly, quirking one corner of her mouth in a smirk.

Treewhisker chuckled softly, winding his tail tightly around hers before searching her pale blue eyes with his green ones. "I don't hate your guts, at least," the tom cooed teasingly, a smirk crossing his face even as his gaze remained lovingly fixed on hers.

"Everyone hates his guts," she sighed. "Except his mother."
