(Ooh, that would be fun. I was also thinking that Hazelpaw and Storm could fall in love with each other.
Storm being the prophesied actual leader.)

(maybe for the far future we have a graypawxashpaw relationship? I've wanted to have a gay pairing for a while now I don't know what to do right away though.)

Ashpaw flinched a little at being dismissed so thoroughly, ducking his head. He cast a quick glance at Graypaw before hurrying away.

"I am the leader. I know many things." Replied Nightstar curtly, his tone indicating he was done with explaining himself to his kit. With a dramatic flair he turned back around, refocusing his attention on Graypaw.

Ashpaw pulled his ears back. “...but how do you know he did?” He dropped his gaze, tensing slightly as he prepared to be rebuked for questioning his father.

"He helped his sister run away from our clan. Instead of trying to help her and teach her the error of her ways, Graypaw, you enabled her."

Graypaw was too battered to stand up again or even speak, and therefore could offer no retort.

Ashpaw flinched slightly for the moment that Nightstar’s glare was aimed at him, confidence wavering. “I- what did he do?” He shuffled his paws, clearly meaning Graypaw.

Nighstar glanced to his kit, his enraged glare quickly turning to a questioning, slightly annoyed look. "Yes, Ashpaw?"

Ashpaw flinched, softer and more open than his sister, who managed to control her reaction. Cinderpaw turned her gaze away and hurried off to the apprentices’ den, but the young tom couldn’t leave it. “...Dad?” He said hesitantly, inching closer.

Graypaw lifted himself to his paws again slowly, spitting out some of his own blood in defiance and meeting Nightstar's gaze.

Nightstar growled quietly, paying the apprentices who had just entered no mind, making Graypaw into a very public display of what you could expect if you crossed the tyrannical clan leader. "You disgusting, insolent thing," he snarled, lashing out at the apprentice again, the younger tom too weak to do anything but take the blows at this point.

The first thing that the two young apprentices saw upon entering the camp with their mentors was their father slashing an beaten Graypaw across the muzzle. Ashpaw jumped, tail bushing out, and Cinderpaw squeaked in surprise. Neither of them had been expecting it.

Graypaw was dragged back into camp not long after the two apprentices arrived, beaten, bruised, and bloody. Nightstar met the patrol that dragged him in, scowling at the tom with disdain.

"His sister has escaped as well. Find her!" Snarled the tom at his warriors, who quickly turned to oblige. Nightstar then turned his attention to the young tom, letting out his rage at the situation by swiping graypaw across the muzzle.

Unaware of exactly what had happened to her brother, though it wasn’t at all far from her thoughts, Hazelpaw continued to make her way downriver.

Meanwhile, Ashpaw and Cinderpaw were returning to the camp from a training session.

Graypaw fought as long as he could, but he stood no chance against an entire well fed patrol, and so eventually, beaten, bruised, bleeding, one eye lidded half-shut, he collapsed to the ground, being further clawed at and spat on after giving up by the vengeful warriors. Eventually, they began to drag his unconscious self back to the clan camp.

Hazelpaw carefully poked her head out of the reeds once she had caught her breath. Seeing no one, she slipped back into the main part of the river, quickly swimming downriver, using the flow of the water to take her down faster than she could have managed herself. She spared a moment of thought to be grateful that her pelt color was so pale, allowing her to blend in with the gray river water.

Finally, Graypaw was cornered, and in desperation he lunged at one of the chasing warriors, still trying to delay for as long as possible for his sister.

Deep underwater, Hazelpaw didn’t notice that this had happened, only noting vague, muffled sounds as she slowly and carefully made her way over to the reeds. Once she felt certain that she would be hidden if she breached the surface, she swam upwards. Her head broke through the surface of the water, and she took in a shuddering gasp of air. She shook her head to get the water out of her eyes, huddling down as far beneath the top of the reeds as she could without submerging her head again.

The splash in the water went unnoticed, as Graypaw streaked past the riverbank, a trio of warriors not too far behind him.

The fear that spiked in Hazelpaw at how close the voice was lent a burst of speed to her paws. Her gaze caught sight of sunlight glimmering on water, and she nearly cried aloud in relief. Remembering at the last moment to remain silent lest they catch her, she pelted full-out towards the river, only slowing down enough to not make a massive splash when she entered the water. Reaching the bank, she only paused long enough to pull in a big breath before diving right in.

"I think I heard something!" Came a cry from a Warrior, seemingly closer to Hazelpaw than the last utterance from the patrol.

Treewhisker smirked back mischievously.

In terms of endurance, Hazelpaw wasn’t much better than her brother, having been unable to practice any of her warrior skills since Nightstar took over. Having been fed, better, however, gave her the strength to keep going. Her amber eyes caught sight of a crooked tree, and in a flash she remembered where the river was relative to her. She veered to the left, increasing her pace.

Violetwing purred in amusement at the sound of her younger daughter’s reaction, opening her eyes. As Treewhisker kept holding the contact, she realized what he was doing and gave him a mischievous look.
