We’re On An Adventure (Stormwind)

“Maybe, but I’m glad we kept walking. A little rain is worth getting closer to the clans!” Newton mewled enthusiastically, narrowing his eyes against the drops as he sought shelter for them.

Lady followed his example, frowning at the rain. “I told you we should’ve thought about this earlier.”

Newton flinched as an especially large, cold drop of water landed right on his head. “Let’s find a place to hide out,” mewled the tom to his friend, pressing closer to the steep bank of the stream bed. That blocked at least some of the rain.

Lady fluffed out her pelt, making a disgruntled sound. The young she-cat had never been fond of Water.

After a moment, Newton conceded “I’ll keep an eye out for a place to take cover.”

Sure enough, at some later point in the day, the rain began to fall.

Lady grimaced at him, scowling at having her, she thought, perfectly grounded opinions ignored.

“Maybe the shelter’s in here somewhere.” Newton pointed out. “There hasn’t been any water here in a long time. Otherwise the sand would be wet. We’ll be fine.”

“But there’s no place for us to get out of this gully!” Lady protested.

“we’ll find something. There’s not much out here, but we’ll find it.” Newton Replied casually, continuing the walk without a care as the clouds gathered overhead.

“If it does rain,” Lady mewled, wrinkling her nose at the thought of getting wet, “What are we going to use for shelter?” She eyed the high walls dubiously.

Newton shrugged when confronted with the clouds, which now stretched across the sky as far as they could see at the bottom of the old riverbed. They could deal with a little bit of rain. If anything, it was just a convenient excuse to snuggle up close to Lady, and maybe do a bit more than just snuggle.

Lady peered up at the overcast sky, wondering if it was going to rain or snow.

Newton flicked his tail as well, glancing up when it suddenly got darker. The clouds had become more numerous and thick, and for the first time that day had noticeably covered the sun. Newton continued on, unconcerned with the overcast weather.

Lady fell silent again, flicking her tail as she padded after him.

“That’s the spirit!” Newton purred loudly, turning back to face forward with a wide grin on his face.

Lady shook her head. “You’re right, I can’t wakt either.”

Newton noticed her smile and smiled back. “It’s going to be amazing! I know you can’t wait either, can you?”

Lady couldn’t help but smile at her friend’s newfound enthusiasm. He hadn’t seemed to be all that happy to be on the journey before, having originally only come to keep her safe.

“We crosses the mountains going the right way! We can’t be that far off, Stormfur said so!” Newton Replied enthusiastically. “I can’t wait to see what the camps look like, or a Gathering! Imagine that many cats in one place...!”

Lady blinked at him bemusedly. "How do you know we're close? It's not like we've seen signs, and Ravenpaw didn't tell us we were."

“Can you believe how close we are?” Mewed Newton excitedly to Lady, hoping to lift the She-cat’s spirits after she’d been unnaturally quiet since their vision.

Lady eyed the high walls around them with an uneasy frown, wondering what would happen if something attacked them. The walls were too high for them to easily get out, almost too high for them to get out at all.

Newton decided to try and help the mood a little by trying to think of a good joke or story to tell her. As he buried himself with that, the gray tabby lead them into a dried-up stream bank, which had been weathered away by seasonally-flowing water on either side such that the banks were a good few taillengths over Newton’s Head. Getting onto it would be a stretch for him, and a nearly impossible task for the younger she-cat beside him. They didn’t need to do that, though, they could just walk through it and let the path of the old stream guide their paws.

Lady walked at Newton's side, mostly recovered from the previous day but still being a little gloomy and quiet, rather uncharacteristically of her.

At around midday the next day, the pair were still walking. Newton had been mewling encouragement to Lady the whole time, feeling that they were getting closer and closer to the clan territories. Some clouds had begun to gather overhead, but it was nothing like the dark snowstorm that had trapped them in the mountains. Newton wasn’t concerned.
