(Ok!)

Treestar bounded over the root easily after seeing Swiftstream nearly run into it, but it tripped up another rogue. The cats pursuing them were comically unaware of their own territory, but it didn’t make the remaining cats any less speedy.

(Nah, not really. They could get in a brief fight and barely escape though)

Swiftstream barely managed to avoid tripping over a tree root, turning her step into a leap over it.

Riverstar slid underneath some low tree roots as he continued to flee. One of the larger rogues tried to follow their exact route and comically got stuck beneath the roots, scrabbling at the earth and yowling indignantly.

(Do you want them to get caught, or no?)

Swiftstream pinned her ears back at the angry yowls but didn’t look back, knowing that it was a common mistake in many chases and could be fatal. She just kept running for her life.

Riverstar bolted after Swiftstream, his tail streaming out behind him. He sighed gratefully when they got back to level ground and continued running, hearing the angry yowls of the rogues behind them as they collected themselves and began to give chase.

As soon as they had an opening Swiftstream bolted, plunging headlong down the hill and only taking enough care to not trip.

The boulder finally tumbled over the edge, Riverstar scrabbling at the gravel beneath their paws to narrowly avoid joining it on its roll down the hill, kicking up more rocks along the way. The rogues soon saw what was happening and scattered, giving the mates their opening.

Swiftstream grit her teeth, straining as they moved the rock together. It was difficult, but as they didn’t have to move it far, she knew they’d be able to make it.

Riverstar grunted loudly with the effort as he joined her in pushing. The pair were out of view of the rogues, who assumed they had just gone into hiding behind the boulder. They had no idea what was coming.

Swiftstream stood beside him, and after exchanging a glance with him, placed her forepaws on the boulder and began to push.

Riverstar padded around behind the boulder, eager to get to work getting out of the sticky situation they found themselves in.

Swiftstream followed after him, eyeing the large boulder. It wasn’t precariously placed, so it would probably take both of their strength to move it. They could only hope that the rogues didn’t realize what they were doing until it was too late, though.

Riverstar nodded to her, beginning to climb back up towards the boulder that was highest up. The rogues, who had no idea what was about to happen, sneered at the cowardly clan cats as they retreated back up the mountain.

Swiftstream frowned but nodded. Much as she disliked the idea of causing an avalanche, it was the best chance they had.

“Do you have a better idea?” Riverstar retorted quickly, before adding a more gentle “We push these down, they see them and get out of the way. We run for our lives while they’re distracted running for theirs.”

Swiftstream followed his gaze and her eyes widened. “Riverstar!”

“They weren’t supposed to know we were here in the first place,” Riverstar retorted, though he knew she was right.  Though tired, an idea came to the tom.  He glanced back up the slope, where there was a few larger boulders set amongst all the loose gravel.

Swiftstream stared worriedly down at the rogues. “We should have disguised our scents.”

Riverstar pinned his ears back as Swiftstream spoke. He didn’t see a way out of this that didn’t involve them getting captured, and unless Swiftstream had another idea that was what would happen.

“What do we do?” Swiftstream murmured, fully aware that the wind was blowing from behind them towards the rogues and might carry their words. She didn’t want them to hear anything.

Riverstar’s eyes narrowed at the smattering of cats gathering below them, at least half a dozen. It was too many for the tired pair to fight, he knew that much. That said, simply padding down into their waiting paws hardly seemed an appealing option either. He took a protective sideways stance, putting his body between them and his mate even though the rogues were too far below to attack without giving plenty of advance warning.

Swiftstream couldn’t help her cringe back, trying to hide behind her mate. She still remembered all that had happened when she’d been captured all those moons ago.

Riverstar’s eyes widened as he confirmed his suspicions. It’s the rogues. the Tom’s gaze darkened, and he glanced down to his mate when the cats at the bottom turned towards them, clearly waiting for the pair of cats to come down, tail flicking impatiently as they looked up at the pair of warriors.

Swiftstream halted as well, glancing at her mate and following his gaze.

The newly-minted leader narrowed his eyes as he thought he saw movement at the bottom of the slope, the cascade of rocks he was kicking down coming to a temporary halt as he stopped dead in his tracks. “Swiftstream, wait,” mewed The tom quickly, narrowing his eyes down towards the foot of the mountainside.
