Not Exactly to Code (Apprentice x Leader) [Bacon]

"They can't, though. The omen said so." Replied Birchwing, a bit more anguish in his voice. Even if his clanmates hadn't treated him very well since the dog attack, he hated the idea of abandoning the clan completely.

"I'm sure they can live without us" She murmured, her ears back.

"The clan still needs us." Birchwing replied evenly, sighing softly as he settled further into the nest.

She turned her head and watched him, her tail flicking softly, "It isn't that bad here" She murmured lightly.

"All the same," Birchwing growled, "I can't wait to get back outside and get this twoleg scent off of me."

"I was thinking the same thing" She purred softly, kneading the bed and curling up comfortably.

"Not bad." Birchwing mewed tiredly, kneading the bed with his forepaws.

The she-cat panted softly once she was set down and left alone, she realized how soft the bed was and she quietly purred, getting comfortable.

Birchwing regarded the hunter carefully as he again tried to touch his mate, the tom padding into his own nest to avoid being picked up.

Lavenderstar jolted and hissed as the man came back, setting out a couple soft beds for them, he tried to pick the she-cat up to put her in the bed.

Birchwing laid down next to his poor mate, grooming her head and shoulders affectionately as he tried to comfort the she-cat as much as possible, though he wondered aimlessly how long it would be before they could leave this den.

She licked his nose softly and sighed, "I'm fine, just in pain" She mewed softly, pressing against him.

"I know, it feels sort of cramped in here." He sighed lightly, giving his mate's nose another lick. After a long moment of silence, he asked "need food?"

"I'm just not comfortable" She murmured, rolling onto her stomach and sighing, her ears back.

"Stop that!" Birchwing rushed to her mate's side, helping her lie back down gently. "Don't move yourself, love. Just get me to get what you want for you." He licked her nose once, smiling softly as he locked eyes with her, his gaze pleading trust me.

The she-cat started waking after a while, murmuring and trying to roll herself up, yelping when she felt a sharp pain in her wound.

Birchwing sniffed the cat food pretentiously, instead chowing down on the raw meat. Ever conscious of his mate, however, he left a decently-sized portion of it alone for her, pushing the saved treat next to it as well, and the male resumed his vigil.

The hunter and vet left, closing the door again, shortly after the hunter brought some raw meat and cat food for them before leaving them be after setting up a litter box as well.

Birchwing didn't move from his sitting position, guarding his mate dutifully, blinking back sleep and resisting his growling belly as he waited.

The injured she-cat panted softly as she slept, the medication she had given helped with her pain and helped her sleep.

Birchwing sniffed the treat suspiciously, finally deciding on sitting on top of it to save it for his mate. That seemed logical, and he looked unapologetically up at the twolegs as he did so, wishing he could express thanks to them in some other way.

The vet wrapped the she-cat's wound after cleaning it and gave her some medication in a meatball treat, the vet then tossed a treat to the tom, nothing in it but the meat and crackers to hold them together.

The tom sat back a little, watching the new twoleg suspiciously as they touched his mate, eyes narrowed and tail lashing.

She just slowly blinked to try and show him she understood, after a while the twoleg came back with another that had a box with medical supplies inside, a vet, and the vet gently looked over the she-cat.

"Don't move."  Birchwing cautioned, placing a paw on her shoulder to reassure her.  "We'll be alright.  If he turns out to not be friendly, I'll get us out of this.  Locking eyes with the weakened she-car, he mewed "I promise."
