Hello Feline Friends

Yellowfoot looked thankful to have gotten all of the prey he’d been carrying into the pile and out of his way. The tom turned to Hazelpaw and was about to mew something to her when he stopped and pricked his ears. Foxfury was clearly angry by the tone of his voice, and he was talking to none other than Graypaw.

Hazelpaw dropped her prey on the fresh-kill pile right after him, swiping her tongue around her jaws.

The tom huffed with relief when they finally reached the fresh-kill pile, dropping everything at once thankfully into the already substantial pile of prey.

Hazelpaw kept side-eyeing her mentor, wondering how he was managing to carry all that.

Yellowfoot trotted alongside the younger she-cat on their way back to camp. At least with the prey pinned against his chest by his chin his head was at an angle that allowed him to watch his pawsteps, but balancing the mouse on top of his head was proving to be hard work.

Hazelpaw was somehow managing to carry a mouse, a squirrel, and a thrush all in her mouth.

Yellowfoot rolled his eyes and sighed around the prey in his mouth, not really able to speak. It was the only way he could carry everything he caught!

Hazelpaw stared at him in bewilderment.

Yellowfoot padded up to Hazelpaw a little later, jaws full and a bit of prey clenched between his chin and his chest. On top of that, he had a mouse lying on top of his head, making the warrior look rather silly.

Hazelpaw nodded in acknowledgment and hurried off to gather up her prey.

When Yellowfoot felt he was finished sometime later, having added a pair of birds to his catch, he climbed to the top of the Rockhill and signaled to Hazelpaw that it would soon be time to return to camp.

Hazelpaw huffed for a third time and headed off after the trail of a mouse.

Yellowfoot purred quietly, stalking off after some real prey.

“I’m not prey,” Hazelpaw pointed out.

“You’re still here,” retorted the tom teasingly, smirking mischievously back at his apprentice.

Hazelpaw huffed against and scented the air, disgruntled at her mentor making such a rookie mistake. “If there’s anything left after that noise you made.”

Yellowfoot smiled warmly. “I’ll just need some marigold once I get back to camp probably. It’s not bothering me much.” After a second, he added a playful growl of “So what are you waiting for? The prey’s not getting any less old and stringy!” The tom crouched low, looking for something else to hunt, preferably something that wouldn’t fight back.

Hazelpaw huffed, looking away.

(Quesadillas for dinner yesssss)

“I got impatient.” Yellowfoot pinned his ears back sheepishly, offering a slight smile at Hazelpaw as he found himself being lectured by his apprentice, staying playful about it.

Hazelpaw stares at him flatly. “That was one of the first things you told me to never do.”

The tom flicked his ears toward the warren. “I stuck my face to look in there for prey, and the rabbit was sitting right at the entrance!” Exclaimed Yellowfoot. “I think it scared me as much as I scared it. Difference was he was faster with his claws.”

Hazelpaw gave him a disbelieving stare. “Scared? Of what?”

“I got scared!” Yellowfoot protested with a chuckle, grinning at his apprentice. The warrior was in good spirits despite the blood on his muzzle.

Hazelpaw frowned up at him. “I heard you yowl. I thought you were in trouble.”

Yellowfoot didn’t appear to be seriously injured, The tom standing off to one side of the warren he’d discovered and murmuring curses at the stupid rabbit under his breath. He turned to Hazelpaw, a bit of blood coming from a group of small scratches on his muzzle staining the fur on that side of it. “Hey,” The tom Mewed, a tiny bit embarrassed.
