Never Enough Pride

The older female started to calm after her daughter spoke and she pinned her ears softly, laying down with her pride sisters and grooming her daughter, Marah sighed and leaned against her mother while looking up toward the male,"Sorry about her, she's old and bitchy, worse than when she's in heat" She mewed softly to their new king.

Cato growled at the older tabby, he didn't like that the pettie female was moving away from him. He ran his eyes over the rest of the females, his claws flexing out as he inhaled, discovering that the young female had been infact correct, the old tabby was in heat. Cato narrowed his eyes and moved toward the older cat, his tail raising, baring his teeth and letting off a series of growls and grunts.

The lionesses began calming down and lazing about again, the mostly white young female as well, she curled up with her aunts and other pridesisters, but she watched as her mother wouldn't calm down, "There aren't any, Marah was the last, and she's grown now" The stubborn old female huffed to the male.

"Mother, you're upsetting him, we all know there aren't any cubs, and you're in heat anyway" Came the soft voice of the young lioness looking up toward her mother, her white ears flicking softly and she looked toward the male, her tail lashing.

He growled softly, he didn't want to scare the females into submission, he enjoyed a challenge. He noticed a particularly aggressive. He smirked and trotted toward her, baring her teeth. He flicked his tail up as he passed the other females, beginning to remark the ground around him. He bared his teeth, "where are they" he asked, if any females were still nursing Cubs they would refuse him, which meant he needed to kill the Cubs. He'd assumed by the females aggression that she indeed did have Cubs. He began circling her, lashing his tail out.

The older females let out low hisses toward the male, their tails raised and lashing, it seemed by their body shapes they hadn't had cubs for a couple years, while the only young lioness stood in the back of her pridesisters, her tail lashing and her ears perked, she was the only female that had never had cubs, all the others had cubs at some point in their lives, but due to their king growing old, no cubs had been around for a year or two.

Cato was beyond amused that the old lion hadn't at least swiped at him, he would have taken him down quickly of course. But he'd never expected the old male to just run for it. He trotted toward the females, he ordinarily may have run after the male but he had no need to. When he arrived at the group he growled softly and snipping around the female. His insticts demanding that he first discover whether or not the lionesses had Cubs.

The lionesses began noticing a new scent of a male and they started getting up, Marah pulled away from the older king and the females noticed the new male, low growls and lashing tails, but they knew to keep away, their king however, noticed the other male and let out a loud roar, starting to move toward him, his ears pinning, though when he got closer to the male, he realized he wouldn't be able to fight him off, the male looked back to his harem of females before beginning to run off, in his mind, he could easily survive without the lionesses and he planned to come back to win them over, despite just leaving them the way he just did.

Cato lounged lazily at a fresh kill, licking his lips to clean off the blood. He stood up and called out his tale lashing. He stretched out, his claws torturing the ground below him. He trotted toward the smell of a pride, he had once been the King of a small pride, but had been overthrown by three brothers several weeks ago. He'd been wondering the plains ever since, although he'd been watching a particular pride for quite some time, it would be an easy take over, with the present King being so old and frail. From where he laid, he could see the females lounging, he was clearly in their territory but seemed completely at ease, he had no reason not to be.

Marah yawned as she laid out with her pride sister's in the shade, her tail flicking softly, they had just recently went on a hunt and brought down a good sized zebra, filling the bellies of their aging king and the pride sister's. Marah was the only survivor of her litter and after that their king seemed to be unable to make cubs with the lioness's, but he sure as hell tried, even tried with Marah before she was even close to going into her first heat. Marah's mother, an older sandy coloured lioness was freshly in heat and the king was lazily trying to entice the older lioness to let him mate with her, she eventually allowed him, but it wasn't long before the male was swatted away and bit at, the king huffing and moving to the older lioness's only surviving daughter, he rubbed himself against Marah, who didn't seem to care for his advances toward her.
